Cleveland Park DC Kosher Kitchen Renovation

Homeowner Challenge:

The client wished to renovate a small, dated kitchen within the existing footprint of her 1913 Cleveland Park home in Washington, DC. The main challenge of the project was to design a modern, strictly kosher kitchen within the existing space – including dual sinks, dishwashers, food preparation areas and storage for an avid cook with a passion for entertaining.

The BOWA Solution:

The renovation included removing two walls, one of which was load bearing, to capture the adjacent space and create better flow. A large, L-shaped island was designed to provide storage, space for meal preparation and casual seating, and becomes the focal point of the kitchen. The client loved the unfinished look of a metal support post revealed during construction, so it was sealed to prevent deterioration and adds to the industrial chic vibe of the project. The homeowner uses every inch of this thoughtfully designed kitchen by BOWA, and has invited several local chefs to host cooking classes in her home.

Project Highlights:

  • Two-tone custom cabinetry provides contrast in contemporary black matte versus warm cherry
  • L-shaped island with cherry and honed absolute black granite countertop
  • Appliance package including Wolf 48” Range, dual Bosch dishwashers, and Bosch Benchmark 30” Double Wall Oven with Right Hand Door Swing
