Doug Horgan

Doug discovered a passion for building when he joined BOWA in 1989, after graduating from Swarthmore with a degree in philosophy. He worked as a carpenter, project manager and team leader, becoming an owner of the company in 2003. Today, Doug combines his enthusiasm for great building and extensive knowledge of construction, in a hybrid quality-training-R&D position focused on production best practices. Doug is an NAHB Certified Graduate Remodeler, and was the first person in the Washington area to achieve the NAHB’s Certified Green Professional designation. He also carries certifications from the Building Performance Institute and is a NARI Green Certified Professional. Doug serves on the D.C. AIA Committee on the Environment and the NARI Metro D.C. Green Building Committee, and is an instructor for the NARI Green Remodeling class. Doug lives in Silver Spring with his wife and two children.

A company owner since 2007, John has more 13 years of experience in the construction industry. A Washington, D.C. area native, John graduated from The Catholic University of America with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After graduating, John spent five years working with Habitat for Humanity International. Although he lived in Georgia at the time, he was able to work on building homes across the country, as well as in Europe and Asia. After moving back to the area in 1999, John joined BOWA as a Project Manager. John became a Production Manager in 2003, and now focuses on projects in Washington, D.C., Arlington and Alexandria. He currently resides in Washington, D.C.

Mark, an owner since 2003, came to BOWA in early 1998 after relocating to the Washington area from upstate New York. Prior to joining BOWA, Mark was the owner of a successful home building and remodeling company for 22 years. Originally hired by BOWA as a Production Manager, Mark was promoted to Vice President of Production in 2001.

Charles (CJ) Sernik

CJ joined the BOWA team in 2004 and quickly rose to become Team Leader of the Customer Service group. CJ is dedicated to BOWA’s #1 core value of “Providing Heroic Customer Service,” and he most enjoys working with clients to surpass their expectations while resolving home-related concerns. Prior to joining BOWA, CJ served in the U.S. Air Force for more than four years, including a tour in Bosnia in 1998. After the military, he attended Allegheny College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and minors in communications and psychology. CJ has been around construction for most of his life, having worked as a mason and roofer and having installed floors and swimming pools. CJ is an avid sports fan and supports the local Washington, D.C. teams except when they are playing his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers or Penguins. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors and visiting with his three nephews, Kody, Keane and Karson, and niece, Kennedy.

A BOWA team member since 1992, Stefani has more than 20 years of experience in residential design and construction. After graduating from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, Stefani worked for four years at Case Design/Remodeling as a draftsman, in-house designer and sales associate. She also owned and managed a small family business. Since joining BOWA, Stefani has held many positions within the company, including Marketing Director. Currently a Project Coordinator, Stefani’s responsibilities include budget generation and guiding our Maryland-based clients through the selections process. A BOWA owner since 2003, Stefani is an active member of the BOWA Small Group and the National Association of Women in Construction.
